As our last committee meeting of this semester we discussed the final legislation of the year.  Strictly within CCRC we reviewed the status of the Hand Sanitizing bill and finalized the resolution to place parking meters on the top level of the Virginia Avenue Parking Garage.  Finally we opened discussion for continuations of projects for the upcoming school year.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact us.

Respectfully Submitted,

Student Affairs Committee: April 22

April 22, 2008 · Comments Off

This week the Student Affairs Committee met with Liz Tummonz, who works for the International Teaching Assistant Program (ITAP), regarding the teaching proficiency of international TAs. She was kind enough to give us a brief run down of the process every TA goes through and an idea of the current limits of the program. At the moment, each department only ever meets the minimum requirements for evaluating the teaching proficiency of potential TAs and any TA with a grade of even a 2 (on a 1-4 scale, 1 being worst) can lead a lab or recitation. As such, we are brainstorming recruitment ideas and contacting department heads in an attempt to gather more student volunteers for the TA evaluation process. As always if you have any questions, comments, gripes, complaints, or statements of appreciation, feel free to contact any member of the committee.

The Missouri House Higher Education Committee has just scheduled a hearing on the Student Curator bill for tomorrow evening (Tuesday 4/22/08). Would you be interested in joining us in Jefferson City to provide a student presence during the hearing? We’ll be meeting at 4:30 in the ASUM Office (downstairs Brady Commons). There will be free food and transportation, and we’ll be back by about 7 (or 7:30 at the latest).

4/15 Academic Affairs Committee Report

April 18, 2008 · Comments Off

4-15
We are wrapping up the textbook adoption campaign. Chairwoman P. Williams is meeting with Dir. Pollard to go over the specifics of the campaign as well as determine what our options for targeting procrastinating professors before buyback. She is also scheduled to speak at LBC’s last Full Senate Meeting, which is next week, to garner their support of Senate Bill 389 questions. Basically, Faculty Council passed both of our primary questions last week in their original language. Unfortunately, they were able to minimize the impact of the questions by combining them into one long question. Chairwoman Williams is scheduled to speaking with Dr. Spain next week about the possibility of separating them. Lastly, Chairwoman Williams is planning on meeting with Craig Stevenson to develop a plan as to how we can speak with either the entire Faculty Council or the appropriate committees about textbooks because we have both been unsuccessful in our individual attempts to do so.
