What is the Missouri Students Association?
.
MSA is the undergraduate student government at the University of Missouri and the voice of the student body to administration. Like the federal government, MSA has three branches: the executive branch, the legislative branch and the judicial branch. The student Senate makes up the legislative branch while the student Court makes up the judicial branch. The executive branch, headed by the Association’s President, houses the Department of Student Services, the Department of Student Activities and the Department of Student Communications. These departments are responsible for activities and programs on campus such as the Off-Campus Housing Fair, the College Readership Program, Activities Mart, various speakers, concerts like Ben Fold and more! MSA also has several auxiliaries including S.R.I.P.E.S, the Craft Studio, MUTV, KCOU, Student Legal Services, the Student Design Center and the box office in Brady Commons.
.
What has MSA Senate done lately?
.

In the last year, MSA Senate has produced several influential initiatives through legislation (and sometimes simply a lot of phone calls and e-mails). We’ve helped restore the historic name of the University of Missouri, dedicate the General Classroom Building to Arvarh E. Strickland, create a new avenue for diversity programming, reduce student fees for student government, establish the framework for a campus-wide sustainability plan, place recycling bins and an EZ-Charge line in Brady Commons, provide a system for reporting bias and discrimination on campus, and urge the University system to pull funding from companies who are operating disreputably in Darfur. In the last month, MSA Senate has passed legislation to secure a student vote on the Board of Curators and to print emergency numbers on the back of student ID cards at no extra charge. We’ve also worked with the Associated Students of the University of Missouri to push a bill on reducing textbook prices into to the Missouri General Assembly. By the end of March, we expect to make further progress on textbooks, as well as club sports funding, crosswalks by Stankowski and the Animal Science Research Center, and a carnival with Stephens College, Columbia College, and the local chapter of Big Brothers and Sisters of America.

.
Why should you want to be a Senator?
.
In addition to getting to meet and work with some the best student leaders on campus, being an MSA Senator will allow you to speak with many important campus administrators on behalf of students. In short, you can represent yourself, your classmates, your friends and whomever else you’d like.
